How To Maintain Eye Health

Business Ideas

Close your eyes for one minute. Close your eyes for another three minutes. Extend your count to five minutes. Imagine seeing nothing for the rest of your life. How would you feel? If your eyes are healthy now it doesn’t mean they are going to be healthy for the rest of your life. If you don’t take care for your eyes sooner or later, you’ll have to see Susan Sloan, a renowned eye doctor to treat you. There are many ways to care for your eyes. Let’s find out what these are:

Make Sure You Eat the Right Foods to Get Proper Nutrition

Eating right will not only keep your body healthy it will also improve your eye health. Foods that are good for your eyes include green leafy vegetables like collards, kale and spinach, oily fish, tuna and salmon, beans, nuts, eggs, pork, oysters, citrus fruits like oranges and lemons. Foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc and lutein will preserve your eyesight from age-related eye diseases like cataract and macular degeneration. When preparing your meals, strive to include these foods in your diet.

Stop Smoking

Everyone thinks that smoking only affects your lungs but what they don’t know is that smoking can put you at risk of macular degeneration and cataracts. Numerous studies have shown the relation of smoking tobacco with visual problems. If you want to keep your eyes healthy you should quit the habit. If you are having trouble quitting, don’t hesitate to ask your doctor for help.

Wear Sunglasses When You’re Out in The Morning

One of the ways to protect your eyes is by wearing appropriate eyewear. When you’re out in the sun don’t forget to wear shades to shield your eyes from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. When you are constantly exposed to sunlight it will increase your chances of developing macular degeneration and cataract. When shopping for shades choose sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays. If you are wearing contact lenses choose a pair that offers UV protection but to be sure we highly recommend that you still wear sunglasses.

Use Protective Eyewear

When you are exposed to potentially hazardous materials whether you’re at work or at home always secure your eyes by wearing protective eyewear such as goggles or safety glasses. It’s also important to wear protective gears when you engage in sports activities such as lacrosse, soccer or hockey to protect your eyes.

Don’t Stare at Your Computer for Too Long

Thousands of people all over the world are using their computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones for work and leisure. It’s safe to people use these devices on a daily basis. In order to protect your eyes, we recommend that you limit your time spent staring on your computer screen to prevent eyestrain and dry eyes. Individuals who spend too much time staring at their computers often complain of blurred vision and difficulty focusing. When your work requires you to use your computer for most of your day make sure you are wearing your eyeglasses or prescription contacts to protect your eyes and take a break every once in a while.

Make Sure You See Your Eye Doctor

Another way to care for your eyes is by regularly visiting your eye doctor for an eye exam. Eye exams will help detect problems before they get worse. Early detection of visual problems will lead to early treatment.

Appreciate your eyes by taking the necessary steps to protect them. These tips will help preserve the function of your eyes. Partner with an eye doctor so he or she can monitor your eye health.
